Memrise and Portuguese With Carla

To help you retain vocabulary, we use the Memrise platform. We did a lot of research and found that Memrise was the best “flash card” platform around. It is user-friendly and easy to use. 

Memrise is a great platform that offers its courses but also allows third parties to create their own vocabulary sets or courses. Throughout the Journey and ancillary content here at Portuguese With Carla, you will find literally hundreds of Memrise courses created by us for our members. 

How to access our courses on Memrise?

The main thing you will see when you create a Memrise account is their courses on offer. That’s understandable of course. But you can add our courses to your Memrise account.

To associate our courses with your Memrise account, you have to click on the link we provide and start the course. Our courses will then be accessible from the Memrise website, as long as you're logged in.

We often get the question: “Why can’t I see your courses on my Memrise account?” “Why have the Portuguese with Carla courses disappeared?”

They have recently upgraded their user interface, which somewhat hides “community courses” (what they call third-party-created courses), so here are a few tips.

On the Memrise website

In order to access or resume our courses on Memrise web, click where it says the language you are learning or "pick a language" (top left). Then, click where it says “Community courses” (should be at the bottom).

You can always go back to their new user interface and go backward and forward.

Do I have to pay for Memrise Pro to access your courses?

Absolutely not! Even though Memrise offers Pro accounts for which you have to pay (and they’re pretty insistent 😅), you do not need to upgrade to use our courses. A simple, free account will do the trick.

How to start one of our Memrise lessons?

To access our Memrise lessons, simply follow the link on one of the vocab topics. (see screenshot)

Then, start the lesson while logged in to your Memrise account.

Once you've started the lesson, you'll be able to continue taking that Memrise lesson anytime as long as you are logged in with the same account.
